What a week of fun!
July 9 NaNa left to
go back to PC to work Monday through Wednesday. The rests of us played hard and
enjoyed boating and hanging out at Orange Beach. We rode around on a golf cart
and the adults decided to go Sassy Bass, which by the way is a family friendly
restaurant bar and grill. They serve a Jamaican Me Crazy Drink that actually
smoked and bubbled. We were reprimanded for driving the golf cart on the local
highway by the local Fire Chief!
We made it to FloBama, but the Lil Yatchy
could not hold everyone, so some folks took a taxi back to the beach house. On
Thursday we headed to Destin, Florida better known as Crab Island to pick up
the other crew members, NaNa and Raven. A freak thunder storm blew through as
we tried to anchor. We survived and I took Lil Yachty and returned with NaNa,
Raven and enough luggage for an entire family (it was just Raven’s)! We were
joined by the Noll Family and partied too late. We began heading back around
6:30, which meant we would arrive back at LuLu’s after dark. The gulf was smooth
until Rob made a comment about how nice the ride was going. That’s when the
seas became angry! I made a slight error in the fuel consumption and realized
we might not have enough fuel to make it back to the dock. We got out of the
gulf in hopes to find a marina, only to discover all of the fueling docks were
closed. What the heck, it was only a little after 8:00 pm. I thought the gulf
area partied all night like the rest of us!
As we were approaching the last few miles, I remembered I had a small
reserve of fuel tanks on board in the storage area. Again, Rob was quick to
remember we had paddles on-board the Lil Yatchy and Paddle Board. The trick was
to try and fill the tanks while we were still in motion while hanging off the
side of the boat. Thank goodness for my awesome crew! We successfully added some fuel and thought
we were home free. However, just around the last curve of the ICW, we were
faced head on with a huge barge whose spot lights were pointed right at me.
When I was blinded by the lights, had an empty feeling in the pit of my
stomach. I could go to the right and end up on a dark bank with trees or go to
the left where there were lights and vehicles on a nearby road and lots of
ROCKS! I quickly darted to the left. Thank God it was the right decision. There
was silence on the boat as we barely passed by the barge.
Our last day at the
beach house with everyone there, we relaxed played at the pool, played at the
beach one last time and took family pictures by the beach on our way to a nice
dinner. It was late and we were all tired. Thankfully, Patrick looked so lost
that a woman asked him if he was looking for something. He told her we were
looking for a place to eat without a two hour wait. She and her husband
recommended The Cove Bar and Grill. We quickly looked at the reviews and it was
a go after we saw the 4.5 score. The
food was delicious. We had to try the Deep Fried Twinkies! It was
delicious! Tomorrow is Friday and
everyone heads back to St. Louis and Texas. It was a great vacation with friends
and family.
