The Boat trip is about to start
Its that time again. We are off on another boating adventure and this time we are going to update the blog (unlike last year). As many of you have heard the stories of our trips over the years, we always have something that doesn't quite go the way we wanted it too. Since this is our 4th time doing this trip, I thought we would change it up at bit.
As any great captain knows, you have to check the boat out before you go. Now this is the first time we have taken the same boat on this trip. All of the others we just purchased and new boat and there was NO time to test it. Three weeks ago, I was on a test run with several good friends and their wives. I felt like it would be a good time to check the stability of the hull and PODS (propeller system) on the boat. I saw the perfect opening and BAM! We hit the sandbar at 30 mph. Everyone on the boat was OKAY, but we lost a really good bottle of wine my friend Allen brought. We were stuck and there was NO way the little Sea Tow Boat sent out was going to pull us off our private sand bar! My friend Mike stayed back and Sea Tow took everyone else to Galveston so they could get home.
After spending the night on the boat in the middle of the Intercostal Water Way (ICW), I was able to discover the generator ran great. Mike and I had AC, TV and enough Bourbon to get us through most of the night. We get the boat hauled out of the water and I am just hoping to see two PODS on the bottom and not one. Sure enough they were both there and in tact, but the props were mangled. The hull passed the test as well. There were just a few rub marks from the sand bar. OKAY, more like sand painted the front of the boat.
A Big thanks to Mike for helping me change the Were able to get the boat back in the water before the next weekend. Also, a big thanks to my friend Lynn and Allen for the 60 MPH boat ride back from Galveston after we hauled the boat out.
As you can see we haven't officially started the trip and it's already been an adventure. Stay tuned.... it should be a good year!
Departure is at 9:30 AM July 4th
Destination is Galveston Moody Gardens to enjoy a day at the water park and to enjoy the fireworks!
HAPPY FOURTH TO EVERYONE!
